The Bloggers Hotstove

March 31, 2007 (48:53)

The bookend to our last podcast as this is the post Quebec election special where we discuss if this was a realignment election, what this election means for the three main party leaders and what this means towards a federal election.

Joining me to discuss these issues were Tasha Kheiriddin (who we snagged for the full podcast), Antonio DiDomizio and Dan Arnold. I think we caught lightning in a bottle with this one.

The intro/outro is Take Me Away from Soular's new CD Love Crash Heal.

A special single-issue version of the Bloggers Hotstove panel where we talk about the fall-out from the My Blahg saga. What does this mean for the future of partisan blogrolls? How close to political parties are and should partisan blogrolls be? And would anybody join a blogroll run by a political party.

Joining me to discuss these issues were rookie panelist Andrew Anderson and James Bow

I've tried to balance the volume out as much as possible. Are the results better?

The intro is Love Crash Heal from Soular. You can hear more of it in the outro.

The debate over Pablo Rodriguez's Private Members Bill on mandatory Kyoto targets turns into a meaty debate on global warming and non-scientific language leaking into scientific debate. Also discussed was the effectiveness (or lack thereof depending on your point of view) of the "attack ads" and the fall-out (or lack thereof) of Garth Turner crossing the floor. Joining me to discuss these issues were Scott Tribe, James Bow and Mike Park.

Welcome to another season of the Bloggers Hotstove. In our first regular edition of the winter we look at the "Indian joke" that MP Colin Hayes said was good, we discuss the Conservative "attack ads", bat around the politics of the Maher Arar settlement, have complete agreement that Stephane Dion stepped in it by saying that he saw no reason not to let Adscam members back in the party and what is Jack Layton up to with ATM fees.
Joining me to discuss these issues were Scott Tribe, James Bow and Mike Park.

I didn't expect to be hosting a panel this week but with the cabinet shuffle and the Wajid Khan floor-crossing there was enough to talk about. Joining me to discuss these issues plus a look ahead to the issues that could trip up the Conservative government I was joined by Scott Tribe, James Bow and Stephen Taylor.

The first ever all Liberal panel (not including the host) on the Bloggers Hotstove as I convened a special Liberal convention blogger edition of the podcast. It is a review of the convention from the Wed-Thurs preamble to the shock of the first two ballots all the way to the state of the Liberal party now.
This week's panel includes Jason Cherniak, Jason Morris and Dan Arnold

Well what do expect us to talk about this week? Plenty of talk about the Quebecois is a nation with a united Canada motion, a round on the fiscal update and on how a government can do nothing and the Net Debt is eliminated, opening the constitution to limit federal spending in provincial jurisdiction, the by-election in London (with some wishful Green thinking) and one last kick at the Liberal leadership can.
This week's panel includes James Bow, Jason Cherniak, and yet another rookie panelist Mark Francis.
On an audio note I went back to my tried and true method of recording and the results are a lot better.

The panelists were full of vim and vinegar this week - call it the post Grey Cup effect - making it a raucous evening of talking about PM Harper on-again, off-again meeting with the Chinese President, the NDP rewriting (and renaming) environmental legislation (with a much longer discussion on global warming than I ever intended to get into but it is the panellists show as well) and the new darling in the Liberal leadership race Bob Rae.
This week's panel includes Jason Cherniak, Stephen Taylor and James Bow.
My apologies for the severe technical difficulties with the audio. We had some very difficult echo effects going on with Skype this evening which made smooth transitions from one panelist to another virtually impossible. Also I recorded with the Pamela-Systems plug-in and I obviously to not have the audio balance correctly set. I was tempted to not post this file but I felt it was unfair to my panelists to take up an hour of their time with nothing to show for it. I hope to have all the bugs worked out by the next podcast.
